How to set up a good study table — for parents, not students

Lighting, books within reach, no phone, no chair that lets you slouch.

We are asked about study tables more often than syllabi.

The right setup is unglamorous. A desk wide enough for two open textbooks. A chair with a back that lets the student sit up. A lamp on the left for right-handers (right side for left-handers). The phone, ideally, in a different room.

The single biggest improvement a parent can make: remove the phone from the desk. Everything else is downstream of that.
