We respect your privacy. This page explains what information we collect when you use this website, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

1. Who we are

The Science Edu (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a coaching institute operating in West Bengal, India, with our principal office at the addresses listed on our branches page. This website, www.thescienceedu.com, is operated by us. For any privacy-related concern please reach us at info@thescienceedu.com.

2. What we collect

We collect personal information only when you actively share it:

  • Contact form / enquiry submissions:name, phone number, optional email, optional message and the course or branch you've enquired about.
  • Free mock-test sign-ups: name, phone number and optional email captured before starting a public mock test, plus the slug of the test you took and your score.
  • Student / admin accounts: if you have an account we additionally store your role, class, branch, hashed password, and your activity inside the platform (quiz attempts, scores).
  • Automatic technical information:we log your IP address and browser's User-Agent string against enquiries you submit so we can detect abuse and spam.

We do not use third-party advertising trackers, behavioural profiling, or analytics that fingerprint visitors.

3. Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiry or call you back.
  • To deliver mock-test scores and answer keys.
  • To operate accounts, sign-in and quiz attempt tracking.
  • To send occasional updates about admissions, batches and results relevant to the course you enquired about. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP on WhatsApp or asking on a call.
  • To protect the service from abuse (rate-limits, spam checks).

4. Cookies and local storage

We use a single first-party session cookie (next-auth.session-token) for signed-in users so the site can remember you across page loads. We do not set any third-party advertising or analytics cookies.

We use your browser's local storage to remember your in-progress mock-test answers (so a refresh doesn't lose them) and a flag that you've already given consent on this device so we don't ask for your name/phone before every test. Local-storage data lives on your device — we never read it on our servers.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the website:

We will share information with law-enforcement authorities only if we are legally compelled to do so by a court order or statute applicable in India.

6. How long we keep it

  • Enquiries are retained while they are commercially relevant, typically up to 3 years from your last interaction with us, and then deleted or anonymised.
  • Account & quiz datais retained while your account is active. You can request deletion at any time (see section 8).
  • Soft-deleted records remain in the database in an inaccessible state for up to 30 days before being permanently removed during routine cleanup.

7. How we protect it

  • All traffic to this website is served over HTTPS.
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with a per-user salt.
  • Administrative access is restricted to authorised staff and changes are logged.
  • Database backups are encrypted at rest by our provider.

No internet-facing service is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach that affects you we will notify you within a reasonable time, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

8. Your rights

You can write to info@thescienceedu.com at any time to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you.
  • Have inaccurate information corrected.
  • Have your data deleted from our records.
  • Withdraw consent to be contacted (we will stop calling and messaging you).

We will respond within 30 days. Please include the name and phone number you originally submitted so we can find your record.

9. Minors

Many students preparing for JEE, NEET, WBJEE and Boards are under 18. If you are below 18, please use the website only with the knowledge of a parent or guardian. We treat any communication with a minor as if a guardian were copied on it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page reflects the latest change. Material changes will also be highlighted on the home page.
